Observation Opportunities

Observation opportunities are openings to ride along on a training flight or attend a ground school class and observe the lesson.  Many schools have other students ride in the back seat, especially on instrument training lessons. These student seat holders can be added to an existing reservation by staff, or students can check out observation opportunities for themselves from their customer menu and add themselves to existing reservations. 

Enabling Seat Holder Reservations

The Seat Holder Reservations option is enabled by an Administrator from the Admin Tab / Parameters and Settings menu. The option is included in the Reservation Type Parameters. 

The "number of seats" field in each aircraft resource record must also be filled in properly for this function to operate. For more information, please see Aircraft Information.

The option to allow students to see observation opportunities so they can self-schedule themselves as seat holders is switched on by an Administrator from the Admin Tab / Parameters and Settings menu. The option is included in the Customer Menu Parameters.

Viewing and Scheduling Observation

Staff can quickly view observation opportunities available by clicking the Schedules button on the FrontDesk Tab and then clicking the Observation Opportunities button (shown below).

To schedule a student into one of the observation seats, simply click the Observe button next to the appropriate reservation (shown below). Information about the current seat holders on the reservation (instructor / student) will be presented along with the opportunity to add additional seat holders.

Observation Opportunities / Staff View

Observers can also be added (or removed) from the Reservation Details page for any reservation. Reservation Details can be accessed from many places in the system, including the Daily Schedule. For more information about Reservation Details, please see View/Delete/Revise Reservations.

Blocking Observation

If observation is not allowed on the flights of certain individual students, the "Observers OK When Dual" switch in the General Information section of the customer record can be set to NO.
